Description: last year my friend atik and I enjoyed the pahela baishakh celebration amidst great enthusiasm. The day was a public holiday. I got up from bed very early in the morning and put on our traditional dress pajaman and Punjabi. We started for the ramna batamul at 6 a.m. we noticed that people were pouring in processions towards the ramna batamul from all directions with banners, placards and festoons, they were in colorful dresses. The boys like me, were wearing ‘pajamas’ and ‘Panjabis’ with the girls were dressed in with sarees with red edges. The teenagers had caps on their heads and many of them had masks. We reached there with hearts full of great joy and excitement. There we had a special kind of bangali Dish-Pantha Bhaat with bharta and fried hilsa. Then the day’s first programme began at ramna batamul. Chhayanat, a leading cultural organization, organized the programme. They welcomed the New Year singing the rational song: ‘Eso hey baishakh eso…’ we enjoyed the function with all our attention. We cheered up the artists by clapping our hands for their outstanding performances.
Then at bout 03:00 p.m. we went enjoy the fair arranged in the bangle academy premises. The places were decorated with colorful festoons and attractive painting. There were people and people all around the fair. A great variety of things and articles were brought in the fair for sale and display. We roamed about seeing and enjoying ourselves most. We rode on the nagordola. It was very exciting to us. Then we bought a few bamboo-made articles and some sweetmeats from the fair.
Conclusion: we enjoyed every moment of our stay in the fair and returned home with renewed hopes and aspirations.
